They say location is everything. And Westbrook residents would probably agree.

With its own train station and the Westgate Freeway and Western Ring Road nearby, the estate offers easy access to Melbourne’s CBD, Geelong Bendigo and Ballarat.

There are plenty of other fantastic places you can visit within in an hour of Westbrook. Each month, we’re going to shine a light on one of them, beginning with… Torquay.

Just over an hour’s drive south, the coastal town and surfing mecca draws visitors from around the globe. Here are our 5 top things to do and see in Torquay!

VISIT BELLS BEACH

Renowned for its incredible surf break and stunning natural beauty, Bells is the home of the annual Rip Curl Surf Competition which takes place every Easter. Check out surfers ripping up the exposed reef and point break, bask in the sun on the golden sand beach or head out along the 44km Surf Coast Walk, with its amazing viewpoints to see surfers in action on the waves.

AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL SURFING MUSEUM

Visit the Surfing Hall of Fame to learn about Australia’s surfing history, enjoy interactive exhibits, watch jaw-dropping archive footage and browse surfing memorabilia including an impressive collection of more than 150 surfboards.

POINT DANGER MARINE SANCTUARY

This small limestone reef offers great snorkelling at low tide. From starfish to eagle rays, it’s teeming with sea life.

ROCKY POINT LOOKOUT

Marking the official starting point of the Great Ocean Road, Torquay is home to some of the most impressive coastal scenery in the state. This iconic lookout is one of the best places to take it in, offering spectacular coastal views!

TORQUAY VICTORIA BREWERIES

For something a little different, Blackman’s Brewery, 4 Pines Torquay, Sou’west Brewery and Bells Beach Brewing are definitely worth a visit, offering a variety of fresh, local beers inspired by the town’s surf culture.
