Community Fund Grant Empowering Women
An annual initiative of Westbrook’s developer, Dennis Family Corporation, 2023 marked the sixth year the Westbrook Community Fund has been running, with $35,000 in grants awarded to local community and not-for-profit groups.
Amongst the successful applicants was Women’s Multicultural Empowerment Network (WMEN), a community-based organisation dedicated to promoting the empowerment of women from diverse cultural backgrounds, who put their grant towards an International Women’s Day celebration event last month.
We recently followed up with WMEN to find out how the day went – and it sounds like it was a resounding success!
Almost 50 women from Tarneit and Truganina, hailing from a wide variety of cultural backgrounds, boarded a bus bound for Hanging Rock at Woodend, all set to enjoy a great day out.
They were not disappointed!
On arrival they engaged in a lively program of games and activities designed to foster empowerment, connections and friendship, where laughter and camaraderie were very much the order of the day!
One of the most popular activities was a thrilling trek to the summit of Hanging Rock, which provided participants with a unique opportunity to explore nature, challenge themselves, and enjoy the breathtaking views.
The sunny weather also provided the perfect backdrop for networking and meaningful conversations, as women shared experiences, insights, and aspirations with one another over a delicious selection of snacks, refreshing tea and a hearty lunch.
Says President, Venkat ram Reddy Upparlapalle, “The generous support of Dennis Family Corporation played a crucial role in making this celebration of women's achievements a tremendous success, helping us to create a warm and welcoming environment where women felt supported, valued and inspired, and is greatly appreciated."
