LOVE LOCAL MEET, JOANNE CAMOZZATO, PRINCIPAL OF BEMIN SECONDARY COLLEGE

October 2023 in Meet Your Neighbours

We’d like to introduce, Joanne Camozzato, Principal of Truganina’s new Bemin Secondary College.

Putting a great education literally on the doorstep of the estate’s growing number of families, the Junior Campus (years 7 – 9) will be located at 30 Everton Road and will be home to 600 junior students once the first stage of the school is complete. The new Senior Campus (years 10 – 12) just down the road at 805 Morris Road, will accommodate up to 800 students!

What year levels will be located at each campus?

“In 2024, the Junior Campus will open to Year 7 and the Senior Campus to Year 10 students only, and progress by year level thereafter.

What have the biggest challenges involved in opening a school from scratch?

“Working simultaneously on both big picture strategic planning through to less strategic but more logistical details to ensure the smooth opening of the school for staff and students.”

Both campuses will include libraries; learning neighbourhoods; arts and technology buildings; science and technology buildings, and community hubs including indoor gymnasiums. The Senior Campus will also feature a VCE Study Centre, General Learning Building; food kitchens and Performing Arts learning spaces.

The Year 7 learning program will provide for all of the key Learning Areas including English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Health and Physical Education; a substantial Arts program incorporating Visual and Performing Arts and a technologies program. All students will also be involved in the Check and Connect program – which supports wellbeing as students transition to high school.

The Year 10 program will focus on areas of specialisation related to both students’ future schooling and intended pathways beyond school. All Year 10 students will engage in English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities, Health and Physical Education. Like the Junior Campus, it will offer a substantial Arts program and a technologies program, and students will be able to choose semester subjects from a wide choice of Arts and Technologies subjects.

Senior students will also engage in a Pathways Mentoring program which will support them to explore their strengths, set personal learning goals and pathways.
