Spring has well and truly sprung. And October is the perfect time to get stuck into your vegie garden and start growing some delicious vegies to brighten up your table – and your diet in the coming months!
There’s a vast variety of vegetables that can be sown right now including beans, beetroot, capsicum, carrots, cucumbers, eggplants, leek, lettuce, pumpkins, radishes, silver beet, sweet corn, tomatoes, watermelons and zucchini.
Many of your favourite salad vegetables should be grown quickly for best results. To achieve this, water your plants regularly and feed them every 2 weeks with an all-purpose liquid fertiliser. And don’t forget to use mulch around them to keep weeds at bay and retain soil moisture.
It’s also the ideal time of the year to grow some herbs, and all of your favourites are guaranteed to thrive in the warmer months. Most will allow first pickings in as little as 6 – 8 weeks and then provide an abundance throughout the Summer and into Autumn.
So, what are you waiting for? Head down to the local nursery, buy some seeds and get planting today!
