Truganina Scores New Sport Precinct

May 2023 in Events & Local Area

Local soccer, cricket, tennis and more have a new home advantage in Truganina with the completion of the new multisport precinct at Alcock Road Reserve, thanks to the support from the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence today joined Wyndham City Council Mayor Cr Susan McIntyre and local club members to officially open the reserve, made possible by a $3 million investment from the Labor Government Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program.

With more and more families moving into booming areas like the Wyndham region, this new precinct supports the demand for sport facilities to match that growth.

The new 10-hectare multi-sports precinct, adjacent to the Garrang Wilam Primary School, features three soccer fields with an overlaid cricket oval, three-wicket practice nets, an informal use oval, six tennis courts, and a female friendly sports pavilion including 10 player and umpire change rooms.

It also includes a new playground, BBQ and picnic areas, carparking and circuit paths for everybody in the community to enjoy.

This precinct is now the perfect base for local clubs including Truganina Lions Soccer Club, Truganina Tennis Club, and Truganina United Cricket Club to boost community sports participation, conduct programs and activities.

This project is one of 70 to benefit from a share of the $178 million Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program.

Since 2014, the Government has invested more than $1.6 billion into community sport and recreation infrastructure across Victoria.

From playspace redevelopments to pavilion upgrades, investments like these are all about creating jobs, stimulating local economies, and improving the health, wellbeing, and social outcomes for local communities.

Wyndham City Council also contributed funding to this project. For more information about infrastructure grant opportunities available go to sport.vic.gov.au .
